Tama Starclassic Performer
Fusion-style, Birch with Amber Gold Finish
Playing this kit brings a smile to my face every time. The birch shells deliver nice deep, fat tones—even the small floor tom generates plenty of punch.
Pearl Session Custom
Maple, Marine Blue Fade Finish
I started playing Pearl drums as a youngster, and I still love them. Pearl's hardware is the best - this kit holds up night after night on stage and never breaks down, which is nearly as important to me as having a great sound. I also love the Marine Blue finish, which looks great under stage lights.
Yamaha 6-ply Maple Snare
Anton Fig model
This 14" x 6" with 19-ply maple wood rims is the only snare I use, no matter what kit I am playing on. I record and perform live with it, and it has never let me down. And every engineer or sound tech I work with absolutely loves it.
Sabian Cymbals
AAX and Jam Master models
I never got into anything too fancy or over-the-top when it came to cymbals; in fact I've been using the same cymbal configuration since I was 12 years old. I've used Sabian for many years now. They give me the punch that I need for live rock-and-roll in large rooms, yet allow me great control for smaller rooms and for recording situations.
Vic Firth Sticks
I've used the 5a Wood Tips for years—they are durable and versatile. I use them on stage and in the studio for all styles of music.
Heads
I attack my drums very hard and tend to go through heads very quickly, so I need a head that sounds great while maintaining a reasonable degree of durability. For my snare, I like the tone and feel of the Aquarian Studio-X. My bass drum head of choice is the Evans EQ3—a nice feel and just the right amount of sustain—and I use Remo's Coated Emperor for my toms.
Pedals
I use the DW 5000 bass drum pedal—the most fluid action I've found in a pedal and tough enough to withstand my heavy foot night after night.
